Teamwork part 3

Together Everyone Achieves More

Begin the lesson by asking the students to spell TEAM. Tell them that each letter of team stands for Together Everyone Achieves More. Discuss with the students that to truly be part of a team, we have to work together to achieve our goals, but we must also understand the wants and needs of our teammates and help them whenever we can. By helping our teammates be successful we are helping the whole team to be successful. Just like a chain is only as strong as its’ weakest link, a team is only as strong as its weakest member. So the more we help our teammates the stronger our team will be.

Teamwork part 2

There is no “I” in TEAM!

Begin by asking the students to spell the word team. Do you notice there is no “I” in the word team? That’s because to be a real team player, you have to be more concerned with attaining the team’s goals than you are with your individual performance on the team. Let’s take a basketball team, if one player is always shooting the ball and trying to see how many points he can score, even though he may be a great player, he may cause the team to lose. Five people working together as a “team” can always score more points than one person independently. When we are on a team, it is our responsibility to do our best, but also do what is best for the team to insure we reach the team goals. Ask yourself, what teams am I on, and am I being a true team player?

Testing and the Challenge

My instructions to my instructors for this session belt testing:

Testing is nothing more than meeting the challenge. It’s the preparation, the review, the challenge and even the failure that pushes the growth. Present the challenge, let the student rise up to the challenge, they will enjoy the journey, treasure the memory and grow their skill. Teaching ourselves problem solving skills… When we make mistakes we adapt. When we fail – we overcome.

Advanced Self Defense Trapping Set

In Self Defense Training Series

Trapping Set

You have seen it on TV, you’ve seen it in the movies, how did they trap their opponent’s arms and then punch before their opponent could block. The “Trapping Set” DVD focuses on just the eight specific “Gung-Fu” traps from the Kenpo Set Karate “Punching Set Two” DVD. The traps are a great setup for complimenting other martial art hand techniques. These moves are a great supplement to any martial artist and help build your timing and hand speed. A great DVD for those who are after just the meat of the setting up “trapping” defenses!

Advanced Self Defense Self Defense Set 3

In Self Defense Training Series

Self Defense Set 3

What if the situation you trained for changes? What if an attacker tries to pull your hair? Pushes you or grabs your shoulder and intends to punch your lights out! “Self Defense Set Three” answers those questions plus teaches you even more options for techniques you have already learned in the Self Defense Training Series. More options means you can be better prepared for whatever attack you may be confronted with. More options means more ways to defend when the situations change. Being prepared is better than not being ready to defend yourself or your family. Get more – get “Self Defense Set Three”.

“Self Defense Set Three” completes your training in the “grab arts” of Kenpo Set Karate at the advanced level. Many of these techniques are also used in the soft style Kata’s of Kenpo Set. Several techniques are expanded answering the “what if” question. This set compliments the techniques of pervious sets in your training to the Black Belt level in Kenpo Set Karate.  A must for testing!
