Children's Self Defense

So, what makes my program so effective. The simple answer is your child “understanding” what is going on when they are being pushed, grabbed or even punched. Your children are going to experience real self defense.

USCCA Legal Protection

To all my friends who are martial arts instructors and school owners. What will you do if you are involved in a real-life self-defense situation?

I'm not talking about what physical defense will you choose or how will you employ your martial arts skill.

I am talking about how will you defend yourself legally and financially? I am talking about legal protection.

Follow this link for more information on how to obtain legal protection.   https://bit.ly/3a0ntt7

Leave the World A Better Place

Be the example. The most rewarding feeling of having been a martial arts instructor for 5 decades is when someone tells me how much my teaching them helped them in their life.

When I was teaching and training every day I was so busy I didn't take the time to reflect on how what I was doing impacted those around me.

Moving forward in our lives we need to be the example. We need to uphold a high standard of morality. For what good is a person who doesn't leave the world a better place. Coach Martin

Teamwork

What teams are you on?

Begin this lesson by explaining the definition of teamwork.

Teamwork is when two or more people work together to achieve a common goal.

Next, ask the students to name some different teams. Most of the time they will start naming sports teams like football teams, basketball teams, or baseball teams. Continue by explaining there are many more teams out their besides sports teams. Your family is a very important team, so that everyone works together to have a happy family and life together. Remember the definition of a team is “TWO or more working together to achieve a common goal”. Finally, ask the students to think of some teams that they are on, like everyone in this karate class is a team of basic, black belt training, or masters club members all working together for the common goal of becoming a great black belt someday!

Earning Respect

Earning Respect

Respect is often earned. This means that we cannot expect people to treat us with respect if we do not treat others in the same manner. If we call people names, talk about them to others, and treat them badly, how can we expect them to treat us with respect? We cannot demand that people show us respect. We have to earn it. Respect can be earned in several ways. By showing others that you care, that you can be trusted, that when you say you are going to do something you do it, and by being willing to always help others when needed.

Break guard to leg control

Break Guard to Leg Control

Breaking guard isn't always easy. Notice how I turn my body to put pressure on my opponents ankles to open the guard. Then I lay back to control my opponents leg. From here you can ankle lock, heel hook or move toward knee bar. Each of these finishing moves require proper position before submission.

Contact

Contact in martial arts - what part it plays.

Contact is part of the learning process in martial arts - without contact you are missing out.

Feeling what your partner is doing is integral to contact - you can't learn at the same level without it.

Contact doesn't have to be full on every time, but should be there.

Everyone has a plan until contact is made and then it's on.

Good and Bad

Good and Bad - Balance is a dynamic in life.

Perception is what you make it.
Remember this when you need to show courage.

Remember this when you are alone.

        Remember this when you lead.
