12 steps for success

I am sure many people have used these 12 steps in their respect blogs. Life coaches have used these as steps in a checklist and I am confident there are also many successful people who have done these to be successful why? Because they work. In my coaching people to become a better more successful person through the martial arts my students will see many parallel ideals in becoming a black belt. Successful people: set goals take decisive and immediate action focus on being productive, not being busy make logical, informed decisions avoid the trap of trying to make things perfect work outside of their comfort zone keep things simple focus on making small, continuous and consistent improvements measure and track their progress maintain a positive outlook as they learn from mistakes spend time with the right people maintain balance in their life Is it easy to implement all of these? Absolutely NOT! Here is a tip add these behaviors one at a time into your life not everything all at once.

Consistency in Instruction

Check out these two photos, both taken at the karate center, different classes, different instructors, different students. What do they have in common? They are all learning the same material that is an example of the way instructors are trained and taught in Marty Martin Karate.

What is Double Blades?

There are certain moves in martial arts which are named so you the user can quickly relate name action and application. This has always been true in the art of Kenpo Karate. Here is a simple example of what I am talking about.

Double Blades.

Strike the inside of your attackers striking arm with both your hands held in the "chopping" position hence the name "Double Blades". Ideally one chop strikes the bicep and the other strikes forearm. The strikes should stun the attackers arm thus delaying any follow up action as you proceed with follow moves which might be more strikes,  a takedown and/or jiu jitsu locks.

The Reception of Wisdom

When the teacher shares a block of information, the student must be ready to accept that knowledge and add it to their personal reference library.
For this "seed of knowledge" to grow and become a integral part of ones knowledge, it must be tended to and cared for in order for there to be growth and the production of "fruit".

Let's follow the life cycle of one particular "Seed of Knowledge" and examine the three stages of External and Internal Development - Physical, Mental, and Spiritual the three supporting foundation blocks for your personal growth in your martial arts journey.

Small Victories

Create small victories, they add up, no matter how small or short in time. Those are the moments that carry you through to the next big challenge. And there is always another challenge.

Taking small victories allow for more present moment focus. They lead to collectively completing the bigger goal! Focusing on the end goal may present such an overwhelming task mentally and physically one may quit – collectively small victories add up to success.

For someone who never seems to get started – start with small victories. Life’s plan rarely flows the way one plans. Taking these small victories will open doors to paths in life – many of which can lead to huge successes.
